Michaela Haynes, Torso 2(2023) paper clay,white glaze,ink,16x15x9cm

The human torso, housing our most critical organs, is the core of the human body. Life is marked by the rising and falling of our chests, and our passions and fears are stored in our guts and our hearts. 

 I am making small  individually crafted torsos, each adorned with flowers sketched over the course of the lockdown. 

The hand drawn flowers on the  body signify the processes of healing and change.

For the technical side and because my ethos as a maker/designer comes from my degree in sustainable design, I am using paper clay which I can make from recycled paper. I am aiming to use low temperature firing and I have sourced a white opaque glaze that crackles.
