About Me

Artist Bio

I was born in Derbyshire in 1966, I am an artist and ceramicist my work blends painting, drawing, and sculpture. While I have spent most of my life in Derbyshire, I also lived for five years in St Ives, Cornwall, where I had a studio at The Gaolyard and worked with the Tate Gallery. I specialise in innovative approaches to decorating clay, treating it as a canvas for both artistic expression and traditional ceramic techniques. I draw and paint  on ceramic, then I also paint on canvas and place my ceramic pieces on the painting in mixed media work.

My artistic journey began with formal training in painting and drawing, but it wasn’t until my university studies in Sustainable Design that I discovered ceramics. I started specialising in a local brick clay making sculpture and bowls, tiles.

In addition to my own practice, I have taught ceramics and led workshops for many years both in my own café and Tate St Ives, Cornwall. Most recently I completed a PGCE, further expanding my teaching expertise.

Sustainability is a core theme in my work, reflected in my conscious choice of materials and making methods, re-using broken ceramics into the mixed media  pieces. I am committed to creating art that honours the environment while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship and creativity.

My work has been exhibited widely, including at the Tate Modern in 2019 as part of a staff biennale, and I held a solo exhibition at Buxton Art Gallery  supported by the Arts Council. I have also exhibited in St Ives, Brighton, Yorkshire, and Derbyshire.

My artistic contributions have earned recognition in public art commissions, and I was chosen to create the awards for the Art & Business Awards at Newstead Abbey.

My body of work continues to explore the intersection of nature, emotion, and material, inviting viewers to connect with the beauty and fragility of the world around us.
